We're the Design Room Collective.
We surround ourselves with great people, enabling us to bring together the best skills that your project requires. You work directly with us at all times and all aspects of any project are overseen here in the Design Room studio.
As a collective we all get along as a bunch of friends and have known each other and worked together for a long time. We all share a love of good design as well as getting together for a beer and a lively yarn! There's a great working dynamic between us and we offer a broad range of skills that produces beautiful results.
Having trained in graphic design and multimedia, Emma worked in video production for 8 years before setting up Design Room with Sal in 2010. She has always been obsessed with great design and loves nothing more than working with new brands from the ground up. An experienced graphic designer and project manager, Emma's skills transfer from print and brand to digital with a keen eye for detail and plenty of ambition.
When you can peel her away from her Mac, Emma loves picnics on the beach, enjoying a flat white in husband Chris's coffee shop and wine time on Friday nights.
A photographer and graphic designer, Sal likes to work across both disciplines to produce original and creative design. She set up Design Room with Em after working in the food industry for several years which, strangely enough, is where she realised that she needed to follow intuition and do what she loved and was best at for a living. She's happiest tackling projects that present new challenges and opportunities to learn new skills.
Outside of the studio, Sal enjoys swimming in the sea, surfing badly and walking the coastal paths. She also loves strong coffee, country music and travelling somewhere new with her backpack.
A developer with 15 years of experience on the cutting edge of system architecture, software design and user-interface development as a Masters-qualified senior engineer with a blue-chip aerospace company. Now using all that experience and expertise as a freelance developer building top quality web applications with the emphasis on technical excellence and user friendliness. Mike is rapidly gaining a reputation for excellence in all aspects of his work and is increasingly in demand as a result.
An expedition and racing cyclist with a number of challenging, long distance journeys (crossing the Himalaya, cycling the length of South America for example) under his belt as well as being very active within the local road racing scene. When not riding bikes Mike enjoys paddling a sea kayak and is an experienced sea kayak expedition leader.
First and foremost a camerman, Sam produces marketing video work used for a range of purposes, from social media content, corporate (and the not so corporate) marketing videos for business and crowdfunder campaigns, right the way up to national TV advertising. Sam tries to fully understand every angle of a client's business before starting the production process, so that the finished video truly represents the ethos and passion behind the client's company or brand.
A chef trapped in the body of an explorer! When not roaming the countryside foraging with his hound or freediving for seafood in the rugged Cornish coves, Sam thinks nothing of spending hours preparing a single plate of food, something bordering on an obsession for perfection which filters across to his creative work.
Digital marketing, digital content and a digital camera. Sean has been creating digital content and helping people with digital marketing from back when Vine was something grapes grew on and Periscope was something you found on a submarine. Sean’s background was in broadcast operations while at Sky but he moved to Cornwall and started a company helping people to make the most out of Social Media. Sean now takes a more active roll in content, not just as a photographer but in management and strategy. He is happiest when talking about himself in the third person.
When not working he still ends up behind a camera and on social media as he uses his dog to find favour on Instagram #GreatRustini. Occasionally he stops messing around long enough to explore some of Cornwall's excellent food and drink scene. Some might call him Cornwall's hairiest foodie.
Elly is an illustrator & designer with a love for all things type, bright colours, bold shapes and packaging. She worked for fashion brand Seasalt Cornwall for seven years, during which time she designed their packaging & on garment branding, created in-store POS and stationery as well as designing their best selling jute bags & tea-towels. Her time with Seasalt saw her work go global, with products she designed being sold as far away as the USA, Japan & New Zealand. She's just as happy working on a custom bit of typography as she is drawing fun & colourful illustrations.
In her spare time, Elly is normally found running about in the wild, exploring Cornwall's coastal path. She's also a keen surfer and a martial arts instructor, teaching the Korean art of Tang Soo Do.
Jess is a creative copywriter and PR aficionado with over 10 years of experience crafting content for courageous brands looking to put themselves on the map. Writing her first poem at 4 years old set her on the path to a word-filled future and she loves nothing more than curling up with a notebook on the sand and bringing life to the voices of the brands she partners with.
Outside of the studio, Jess enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and three adorable dogs. She visits the beach every single day and enjoys a square or two of chocolate in the shower every now and then! She also has a bit of a thing from Giles from Buffy but we don’t make too big a deal of it!
